Freshwater west

Starting strong with Freshwater West in Pembrokeshire. This south westerly facing beach is full of sand and rocks. It draws in surfers looking for the perfect wave, and it never fails to deliver! Freshwater West is home to an extensive network of dunes. To preserve the dunes, there is no camping or BBQ’s allowed, purely to help preserve this wonderful pocket of nature. It tends to be a popular destination for experienced surfers, unfortunately, it is not ideal for complete novices. There are alternatives throughout this blog! Although it may be a beach for experienced surfers, it has something for everyone, with rocky reefs and quiet bays perfect for family fun.

Freshwater West comes with an easily accessible car park and toilets too! Meaning you can drive down and stay for the whole day.

Brancaster beach

Brancaster beach in Norfolk is the perfect family-friendly beach. Its long sandy beaches are perfect for the kids to play in. It’s an excellent place to teach young ones how to fly a kit! It also offers beautiful water, ideal for fishing and paddling! There is a harbour where you can take children to go and see the boats. At low tide, the sea reveals an expanse of mud, which is an important feeding area for the birds. You can watch them feed and become one with nature at Brancaster beach.

There is a car park allowing you to drive straight to the beach. There are toilets and a small kiosk selling beach essentials. Dogs are welcome, but they have some restrictions, unfortunately.

Bournemouth Dorset

Bournemouth beach, based in Dorset, is infamous for its watersports and indoor activities like museums and an aquarium! Bournemouth beach hosts an expanse of 7 miles of golden sand. Close by is the Hengistbury Head, which is a coastal area, home to scenic cliffs, coastal walking paths and sandy beaches, great for walks and bird watching, surrounded by the best of nature. There are beach huts available to rent too, and a zip line and climbing wall on Bournemouth pier.

Felixstowe

Felixstowe in Suffolk is a seaside town in between the rivers Orwell and Deben, so if paddling on the sea isn’t your vibe, there are rivers close by that could be for you! It is a traditional seaside town filled with typical seaside attractions, including nature reserves, historical sites, a museum, seal watching, and a ferry to Harwich. This town is perfect for those who love cycling or sailing holidays. The beach has wheelchair access, making it the ideal place for all!

Rhossili, Swansea

Swansea is known for its beautiful coastal scenery, and Rhossili is no exception. With golden sands and dramatic cliffs, it is sure to wow you with its spectacular scenery. Furthermore, it is the ideal place for walking, wildlife watching and surfing. This exposed piece of coastline is a popular spot for surfers because it offers constant waves for all. With a sheltered area at the southern end ideal for beginners, and more powerful, bigger waves towards the northern end. This is a dog-friendly beach, so you can bring your furry friend on holiday too!

Borth Wen, Anglesey

Borth Wen in Anglesey is a sandy, sheltered beach, making it perfect for family kayaking holidays. Its shallow waters and rock pools make it attractive to families with younger children as they provide entertainment and a calmer environment than most other British beaches. It has a coastal path perfect for walkers and those wanting to see the beautiful countryside. The sheltered conditions of this beach make it ideal for surfing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. It is the ideal place to watch wildlife! There is a small car park with toilets and a pub on the road leading into the beach, meaning you can have a great day out, with everything you could need, right there! Dogs are also welcome on this beach.

Fistral, Cornwall

Last but not least is Fistral in Cornwall, it is the perfect beach for surfing and bodyboarding, with people travelling miles to catch the waves here! Although it’s not for beginners, the waves tend to be bigger and more powerful than most, and there is an added danger of rip currents. However, there are lifeguards stationed at the beach for your safety.  There is parking available right next to the beach with disabled access and toilets. There is plenty of food, drinks and entertainment from the town too, and dogs are welcome all year round!
